Uniswap futures began trading on CME Group on 19 October, and FalconX and GSR executed the first block trade in the contract on 20 October. Uniswap founder Hayden Adams described it as the first UNI block trade and the first for any DeFi token run through regulated traditional finance channels, CryptoBriefing reported.
The listing
CME announced the first block trade in its new Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures on 20 October. In its release, Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group's global head of cryptocurrency products, said that "with trading now underway in our Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures, we are providing clients with more versatility to manage cryptocurrency risk and exposure through our robust 24/7 marketplace."
The listing followed a report by The Block on 22 September and an electronic-trading notice on 12 October that set 19 October as the date the products became available. Four contracts are listed: Bitcoin Cash futures, Micro Bitcoin Cash futures, Uniswap futures and Micro Uniswap futures. CryptoDaily reported that contract sizes are 250 BCH and 25 BCH for Bitcoin Cash, and 10,000 UNI and 1,000 UNI for Uniswap. Trading takes place on CME Globex, with clearing through CME ClearPort. The contracts are cash-settled, so no UNI changes hands at expiry, CryptoBriefing reported.
The addition takes CME's single-asset crypto futures lineup to 11 contracts, alongside Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures. CME put year-to-date 2026 futures and options average daily volume at more than 242,000 contracts, or $7.9 billion notional, in the same release.
Why the firms involved framed it as significant
Griffin Sears, head of derivatives at FalconX, said institutional demand is moving beyond the largest digital assets toward tokens with distinct use cases, "like Bitcoin Cash in payments and Uniswap in decentralized finance," according to CME's release.
Adams framed the block trade as a first for the DeFi category, not just for UNI, CryptoBriefing reported. The notional value of the debut trade was not disclosed.
The revenue behind the listing
The listing follows Uniswap's strongest month on record. CryptoBriefing reported that the protocol generated $14.81 million in protocol revenue in September 2026, with Robinhood Chain, a Layer-2 network that went live on 1 July 2026, accounting for 53% of the total. Token Terminal's September figures, released in early October, put the figure at approximately $14.7 million, the highest monthly figure the protocol has recorded, according to the same report.
The driver was trading in tokenised stocks and other assets. Robinhood Chain's 53% share works out to roughly $7.8 million, which CryptoBriefing noted means one network out-earned all of Uniswap's other deployments combined. That pace has not held: by early October, daily transactions on Robinhood Chain had fallen by more than 40%, the same report said.
What to watch
CME gave no dated milestone beyond the launch itself. The next thing to watch is trading activity in the UNI contract against the wider single-asset lineup, which would show whether the institutional demand FalconX described turns into sustained open interest rather than a first block trade.
